Nika moved to Long Island, NY from the beautiful island of Jamaica at almost 12 years old. Five years later, she moved to Manhattan to attend Columbia University, which marked the beginning of her love affair with the “city so nice you have to say it twice.” After college, Nika moved to NYC’s best borough, Brooklyn, where she lived for over 2 years.
Living in the diverse, exciting and dynamic City of New York expanded this island girl’s palette for the arts, fashion, beauty, dining and cultural events – cultivating her into a young woman of style and sophistication. Nika considers herself blessed for the many opportunities she has to participate in and experience the chic city life. Despite these opportunities, she remains true to her roots and considers herself an island girl at heart. In 2009, Nika relocated to Washington, D.C. (“The Chocolate City”) to attend law school. She now spends her time between New York and D.C.
Having lived in two awesome (though very different) cities with access and exposure to diversity and culture, Nika created Cultivated Chic to share her perspectives on a variety of topics including personal style, fashion, dining, self-development, and the arts with other dynamic women who have cultivated a taste for the “chicer” side of life.
You can also find Nika on the web on her other blog, Black Fashion Bloggers, and on Twitter.
