I’ve been feeling sort of “blah” lately. Most days I reach for whatever pieces of clothing I don’t have to iron without much thought about how an outfit looks (I tell myself my outfits are covered by coats anyway). I’ve also been staying indoors a lot more to avoid the cold so that I can curl up with a good book or watch a movie. There’s nothing wrong with those activities of course, but I am a “get up and go” girl. I enjoy attending events, meeting people and trying new things. I haven’t been doing any of those things lately.
I think I am experiencing a bit of a winter rut, while I do find some solcace in knowing that Spring is right around the corner, I have decided to enjoy Winter while it’s here, because “blahness” is no fun.
1. My first order of business will be to add a bit more color and thought to my outfits. I have been wearing a lot of black and greys to match my mood, but I am a lover of color, always have been. So here’s to winter brights
2. Trying new things
Yesterday my friend told me about his trip to the National Zoo where he saw the most beautiful red pandas. He made me realize that I haven’t been to the zoo since I was a child. I am going this winter, I don’t think I’ve seen red pandas before.
I have also discovered a bunch of cool exhibitions taking place in various D.C. museums. As an art enthusiast I am thrilled! Further, they are indoors so I won’t have to brave the cold, though truthfully speaking the weather hasn’t been so bad these last couple of days.
3. R&R
I love to be pampered, but who doesn’t? No wonder spa resorts are so popular. While I probably won’t be going to a spa resort, I will be treating myself to a day at the spa. I am thinking a massage, facial, mani and pedi are just what I need.
4. Nurturing key relationships
There’s nothing like spending quality time with those you love – the people who make me laugh, understand my need to vent and don’t mind my penchant for trashy reality t.v. (shhh, don’t tell anyone. Aren’t these shows a lot more fun when you watch them with friends?
5. Quiet Time
My relationship with God is my foundation; thus, it’s integral that I spend time with Him daily. My daily quiet time include reading the Bible, journaling, prayer and thanksgiving. The times I feel most disconnected are the times I have neglected my daily quiet time. Here’s to daily quiet time!
Are you experiencing a Winter rut? How are you getting over it?
Cheers,
Nika
